After a good night's rest, we get up at 7 AM for a long day of travel. Today we have to cover the 473 km from Lusaka to Livingstone. Although the road is tarred and well maintained, every now and then Mick has to brake for an unexpected pothole. At a certain moment we even have to get off the road because it's under construction and for several kms we travel parallel to the road crossing it several times.
Compared to our earlier trips into Africa, there are some differences. First of all it's colder than usual. With the canvas of the truck open on one side and a chilly wind entering the truck I'm glad to wear a fleece jacket. Secondly the colors of the veld are yellow and green compared to the brown and yellow later in the season. And in the third place the sky is blue and dotted with white clouds compared to the white dusty sky further in the dry season. It looks nicer this way.

Time goes by and we pass small settlements as Kafue, Mazabuka, Choma and Kaloma, have lunch at about noon and pass the first large baobab tree on this trip. Although we will see a much larger one in Vic Falls later on our trip (Big Tree), we stop to make pictures. Finally, at about 4 PM we arrive in Livingstone. In the distance, about 10 km in front of us, a column of white smoke can be seen: Mosi oa Tunya, The Smoke That Thunders. However, we have to wait until tomorrow to look at it from a closer distance. We settle down for the night at a campsite along the Zambezi were, during the silent hours of the night, a distant roar signals the presence of the falls.
